At one point this week, Carlos Frias was scheduled to start for Triple-A Oklahoma today. Instead he has a locker in the home clubhouse at Dodger Stadium after being recalled by the Dodgers on Wednesday.

His return was announced shortly after the Dodgers announced they had designated pitcher David Huff for assignment and claimed left-handed pitcher Ryan Dennick off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers have 10 days to place Huff on waivers, trade him, release him, or outright him to the minor leagues. Dennick is now on the 40-man roster and will report to Double-A Tulsa.

Dodgers option Darwin Barney to Triple-A, add David Huff to roster.

The Dodgers optioned Darwin Barney to Triple-A Oklahoma City and selected the contract of pitcher David Huff. Huff is starting tonight’s game against the Seattle Mariners.

Barney, a reserve infielder, made his only start of the young season at shortstop Monday in the Dodgers’ 6-5 win over the Seattle Mariners. He went 0-for-3.

Barney’s primary value to the Dodgers lies in his glove; he once won a Gold Glove award at second base and was also the primary backup to shortstop Jimmy Rollins. But the Dodgers already had each infield position covered on their bench between Alex Guerrero, Justin Turner and Scott Van Slyke, and of that group only Barney could be optioned to the minors without giving his permission.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly declined to say whether Huff would remain on the Dodgers’ 25-man roster beyond tonight.

Dodgers choose David Huff to start Tuesday’s game against Seattle Mariners.

David Huff will make his Dodgers debut Tuesday and start against the Seattle Mariners, according to the club’s game notes.

Huff, a Huntington Beach native and former UCLA standout, hasn’t started a major league game since 2013 with the New York Yankees. He pitched three innings out of the bullpen four days ago in his only appearance at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Huff is not currently on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster and will need to be added prior to the game. Since there is open spot on the 40-man, this will not cost anyone a roster spot.
