Watch: Dodgers pitching prospect Yadier Alvarez, 20, touches 100 mph in Single-A game.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — In his longest outing of spring training so far, Dodgers pitching prospect Yadier Alvarez was clocked at 100 mph on the radar gun in his third and final inning of a Single-A game against the Kansas City Royals at Camelback Ranch.

Two of the three scouts I spoke with had the 20-year-old clocked at 100; the other had him topping out at 99.

The Dodgers are expected to assign Alvarez to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga or Great Lakes to begin the season. Alvarez, who is from Cuba, signed with the Dodgers for a $16 million bonus last July.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Andre Ethier remained on crutches Monday, three days after he injured his right shin on a foul ball. The veteran outfielder was scheduled to undergo further tests to rule out the possibility of a fracture.

“He just is not feeling well,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the Dodgers lost 6-3 to the Seattle Mariners at Camelback Ranch. “He’s not responding. … Trying to stay positive, but just the way he’s moving around so gingerly and not able to bear weight. We’re waiting.”

Ethier was diagnosed with a contusion after his initial x-ray Friday and was expected to miss just 2-3 days.

“After a contusion, even if it gets you pretty good, you should feel a little less discomfort,” Roberts said.

A fracture could take weeks to heal and would almost certainly land Ethier on the disabled list to begin the regular season. Ethier was named the Dodgers’ starting left fielder early in camp, and his absence would open a door for veteran Carl Crawford to seize more playing time.

Results of the scan could be announced as early as tonight.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Catcher Yasmani Grandal was removed from the Dodgers’ Cactus league game against the Seattle Mariners on Monday after two innings and one at-bat. No reason was immediately given.

As he left the Dodgers’ clubhouse, Grandal insisted that he was healthy but had to leave for a doctor’s appointment.

Austin Barnes took over as the Dodgers’ catcher in the third inning.

Update (4:10 p.m.): Dave Roberts clarified that Grandal was removed as a precaution, after the manager noticed a grimace on Grandal’s face when he struck out in the second inning.
