Brandon League, Brandon Beachy to throw in Arizona this week

Two rehabbing Dodgers pitchers will take the next step in their progressions next week.

Reliever Brandon League and starting pitcher Brandon Beachy are both scheduled to go to the Dodgers’ spring training facility in Glendale, Arizona, while the rest of the team travels to St. Louis on Friday.

League has been on the disabled list since the start of the season with a right shoulder impingement. Beachy is recovering from his second Tommy John surgery and was signed in the offseason as a low-risk, high-potential pitcher. To this point in the season, League and Beachy had been traveling with the team on almost every road trip.

Beachy is scheduled to throw live batting practice for the third time Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers disabled list update: Kenley Jansen, Brandon League, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Joel Peralta.

Dodgers right-hander Kenley Jansen allowed two singles and struck out one batter in one inning for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga today. Jansen threw a scoreless inning in his first rehab game Friday and is expected to make five or six appearances before he’s cleared to return.

Jansen has been sidelined all season as he rehabs from February foot surgery.

Right-hander Brandon League (shoulder inflammation) threw off a mound for the first time since spring training Sunday. He threw 15 pitches at submaximal effort and “seemed to get better as he went on,” according to Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.

Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder inflammation) is expected to throw a bullpen tomorrow in Milwaukee, then face live hitters for the first time at some point during the Dodgers’ seven-game road trip through Milwaukee and Denver.

Right-hander Joel Peralta (dead arm) continues to suffer from a dead arm. “A lot of the same, not making any true progress, still kind of in a holding pattern,” Mattingly said. “We’ll see where that goes.”

Peralta will not travel with the club this week.

SAN DIEGO — The Dodgers finally bit the bullet on Yasiel Puig Sunday, placing the star outfielder on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Puig was able to grab a bat and head to the batting cage prior to today’s game against the San Diego Padres, but manager Don Mattingly was tired of playing short-handed, waiting for Puig’s hamstring to come back to 100 percent.

“He’ll probably be able to play in five days but we’re in the same situation,” Mattingly said. “At this point, let’s get the thing right, make sure we have him for the long run.”

Puig’s situation was easily the most straightforward one on a busy day for Dodgers transactions.

Watch: Brandon Beachy and Hyun-Jin Ryu progressing in throwing programs. Update.

Pitchers Brandon Beachy, Brandon League and Hyun-Jin Ryu are working their way back from injuries right now, and the three converged on the outfield grass at Dodger Stadium on Sunday morning. Here’s a snippet of video shot just after League retreated to the clubhouse:

Beachy, who’s coming back from Tommy John surgery, is at the front of this pack. He’s doing long toss from a crow-hop from left-center to the left-field line.

League, who is recovering from a shoulder ailment, threw from about 80-90 feet at what I would describe as “medium intensity” — hard for a sports writer, soft for a major league pitcher.

Ryu had a more leisurely day throwing up to 90 feet.

None of the three is expected to pitch in a professional game this month.

Update (10:30 a.m.): Ryu said he threw curveballs and changeups from flat ground, but won’t be cleared to throw them off a mound until he makes more progress in his long-toss routine.
