The Dodgers placed Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with left elbow tendinitis, and suddenly need a pitcher to start Wednesday against the Washington Nationals.

The Dodgers also placed reliever Casey Fien on the 15-day DL with tendinitis in his right elbow retroactive to Sunday. Outfielder Joc Pederson, whose rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City is over, was activated from the disabled list, and left-handed reliever Luis Avilan was recalled from Triple-A.

Ryu missed all of 2015, and the first three months of the 2016 regular season, while rehabbing from left shoulder labrum surgery. He returned July 7 against the San Diego Padres and allowed six runs in 4 ⅔ innings, suffering the loss. That remains his only major league start to this point in the season.

An MRI on Ryu’s left elbow showed no changes from his previous MRI.

Jose De Leon is scheduled to pitch for Oklahoma City on Wednesday. The Triple-A Dodgers are currently in Tacoma, Washington. De Leon, a 23-year-old right-hander, has yet to make his major league debut.

Brock Stewart, a 24-year-old right-hander, has made one spot start for the Dodgers already this season and was scheduled to start for Oklahoma City tonight. It’s possible the Dodgers could give Stewart an extra day’s rest before his second cup of coffee in the big leagues.

Casey Fien will replace Julio Urias on the Dodgers’ 25-man roster. Update.

NEW YORK — Casey Fien‘s name was listed on the lineup card in the Dodgers’ clubhouse Saturday and the right-handed reliever is expected to be available for today’s game against the Mets. He’ll take the 25-man roster spot of Julio Urias, who will be optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City one day after making his major league debut.

Urias was not at Citi Field on Saturday.

Fien wasn’t at Citi Field either during the Dodgers’ afternoon media availability. If he hasn’t arrived at the park yet, that would explain why the roster transaction isn’t official. The Dodgers will need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Fien, who was outrighted to Triple-A on May 12.

Update (6:38 p.m.): To make room for Fien, the Dodgers designated outfielder James Ramsey for assignment; Ramsey was batting .222 at Triple-A.

Dodgers outright Casey Fien to Triple-A.

The Dodgers outrighted Casey Fien to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, removing him from the 40-man roster while keeping him in the organization. The Dodgers are responsible for Fien’s $2.275 million salary this year.

Fien was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The right-hander did not appear in a game for the Dodgers after posting a 7.90 earned-run average in 14 games with the Twins.

There are 39 players on the 40-man roster.

Watch: Dave Roberts on Casey Fien and the Dodgers’ bullpen.

TORONTO — No real news on the bullpen front this morning, at least not since yesterday. Casey Fien, claimed off waivers from the Twins, is coming but won’t be available until Monday in Los Angeles. Julio Urias is still under discussion as a possible relief to the relief corps, but he is staying in Oklahoma City for now.

Dave Roberts said it’s still too soon to say what changes Monday when Fien arrives. The Dodgers will have to make a change to their 25-man roster, and it sounds like you can rule out the possibility of an eight-man bullpen (currently there are seven relievers in the ‘pen):

Game 30: Clayton Kershaw puts an end to another losing streak.

Chase Utley slide

TORONTO — A three-run third inning, highlighted by an overturned call at home plate, was all the support Clayton Kershaw needed in the Dodgers’ 6-2 bounceback victory over the Blue Jays. The story is here. The box score is here.

The Dodgers have bullpen questions, sure. Are Julio Urias and Casey Fien the answers?
