Dodgers claim pitcher Layne Somsen.

The Dodgers claimed right-handed pitcher Layne Somsen off waivers and transferred right-hander Chin-hui Tsao (right triceps strain) to the 60-day disabled list today.

Somsen, 27, appeared in two games with Cincinnati this season (5 ER/2 ⅓ innings) in his first big league action and has combined to go 1-0 with a 1.44 ERA, a .149 opponents’ batting average and a 1.00 WHIP in 14 minor league appearances this year at Triple-A with the Reds’ and Yankees’ affiliates. The Dodgers will be his third organization of 2016.

The South Dakota native has gone 10-5 with a 2.42 ERA in 90 games (seven starts) in four minor league seasons, limiting opposing hitters to a .208 batting average and striking out 193 in 189 ⅔ innings. Somsen was originally selected by the Reds in the 22nd round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of South Dakota State.

Chin-Hui Tsao accepts outright assignment to Triple-A, earns save.

Pitcher Chin-hui Tsao, who was designated for assignment Thursday, accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City and earned the save in the Dodgers’ win Saturday night.

Tsao recorded the final four outs in the game, his first since allowing six runs in two-thirds of an inning against the Mets on July 25.

The Dodgers designated Tsao, pitcher Brandon Beachy and outfielder Chris Heisey to accommodate the influx of a three-team, 13-player trade Thursday.

Dodgers designate four players for assignment to clear room for new acquisitions.

Pitcher Brandon Beachy, pitcher Chin-Hui Tsao, outfielder Chris Heisey and first baseman/outfielder Mike Morse have been designated for assignment in a flurry of moves designed to clear room on their 40-man roster following the three-team megatrade completed earlier today.

Beachy, Tsao and Heisey were all at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Morse was one of the players acquired in the trade that brought Alex Wood, Mat Latos, Jim Johnson, Luis Avilan and minor league utilityman Jose Peraza to Los Angeles.

Per MLB rules, the Dodgers were required to amend their 40-man roster today. They won’t have to adjust their 25-man roster until the new players report, which could be as late as tomorrow afternoon.

The Dodgers play the Angels at 7 p.m. Friday. The non-waiver trade deadline is 1 p.m.
