Hyun-Jin Ryu’s next start is to be determined after pitcher suffers rehab setback.

CHICAGO — The only certainty about Hyun-jin Ryu‘s rehabilitation process this year is that nothing is certain.

The left-hander had another minor setback, reporting soreness in his left shoulder a day after his most recent start last Wednesday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He hasn’t thrown since and doesn’t have a date for his next rehab start.

Here’s what Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said today about Ryu:

Hyun-Jin Ryu has setback in shoulder rehab, won’t start tomorrow.

NEW YORK — Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu had a setback in his shoulder rehab and won’t start tomorrow for Triple-A Oklahoma City as planned.

The left-hander suffered minor shoulder soreness after his last start Wednesday and his next start will be delayed as a precaution. Ryu saw a jump in velocity (90 mph for the first time in almost two years) that contributed to the soreness.

Ryu threw four shutout innings in the game, his first ever at Triple-A. He hasn’t pitched this season as he recovers from surgery on his left shoulder labrum, performed last year.

Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu came one step closer to punching his ticket to Los Angeles on Wednesday, throwing four shutout innings in his first rehabilitation start with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Ryu needed 55 pitches to complete the task, throwing 40 strikes. He allowed three singles, one double, walked none and struck out three batters.

After making two rehab starts for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, Ryu was scheduled to throw up to 60 pitches in his Triple-A debut. His next start, tentatively scheduled for next Monday in Sacramento, figures to come with a 75-pitch limit.

SAN DIEGO — Hyun-jin Ryu will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City for his next rehabilitation start on Wednesday.

Ryu has missed the entire season while recovering from surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder last year. The left-hander made two rehab starts for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, pitching two innings last Sunday and three Friday.

If he continues on an every-fifth-day schedule, Ryu will throw four innings Wednesday in Fresno, five innings a week from Monday in Sacramento, and five or possibly more on June 4 in Round Rock, Texas.

Barring a setback or some other change in plans, Ryu would then rejoin the Dodgers’ rotation — presumably no sooner than June 9, an off-day on the schedule. The Dodgers begin a six-game road trip to San Francisco and Phoenix on June 10.
