Dodgers third baseman
Justin Turner is one of three finalists for a National League Gold Glove Award at his position.
Anthony Rendon of the Washington Nationals and
Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies are the others.
Arenado has won the award the last three years.
In his first year playing third base exclusively (the former utilityman logged one inning at first base), Turner compiled a .972 fielding percentage (nine errors in 144 games). Arenado (20), Rendon (8) and Turner (7) were the top three NL third basemen in defensive runs saved. Turner led the field in Ultimate Zone Rating, another advanced metric.
The Gold Glove Awards are voted on by managers and coaches in both leagues. Their selections account for approximately three-quarters of the vote. A statistical component, called the SDI (SABR Defensive Index), accounts for about one-quarter of the rankings. Arenado (8.8) was slightly ahead of Turner (8.4) in the most recent SDI rankings among National League third basemen.
The winners will be announced Nov. 8 on ESPN.
