Dodgers acquire minor-league pitcher Matt West for cash in swap with Toronto.

The Dodgers acquired 26-year-old right-hander Matt West from the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday for cash.

West will be assigned to Double-A Tulsa and joins the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. Hyun-Jin Ryu was transfered to the 60-day disabled list to make room for West. In 12 ⅓ scoreless innings for the Blue Jays’ Double-A New Hampshire affiliate in the Eastern League this season, West had allowed only one unearned run. The Houston native also has one save and 17 strikeouts against just four walks in his seven appearances.

In five minor league seasons, the converted third baseman is 6-9 with a 3.64 ERA (47 ER, 116 ⅓ innings) and 14 saves in 90 games (two starts) in the Rangers and Blue Jays’ organizations. West had Tommy John surgery in August 2012 that forced him to miss most of the following season.

West made his Major League debut last season for Texas and appeared in three games out of the Rangers’ bullpen in July. West was originally selected by the Rangers in the second round (No. 80) of the 2007 draft out of Bellaire High School in Houston.

West has one option year remaining in his contract.
