Mike Trout was a thorn in the Dodgers’ side, but the Dodgers had more thorns for Hector Santiago and the Angels on Friday. The box score is here. The photo gallery is here.

Only three of the eight players the Dodgers acquired before the trade deadline were in the building Friday, and none appeared in the game against the Angels, but the roster moves kept coming.

Prior to the game, the Associated Press reported that the Dodgers’ luxury-tax payroll climed to $297 milllion, which would lead to a $43 million luxury tax at the end of the year. The Dodgers are also responsible for $16 million remaining on Hector Olivera‘s $28 million signing bonus.

TEMPE, Ariz. — Alex Guerrero, meet Mike Trout.

Guerrero, playing third base for the Dodgers today, crushed this ball to the deepest part of Tempe Diablo Stadium in the first inning. Trout, the Angels center fielder and reigning American League MVP, leaped and pulled it down above a 420-foot marker — one of the more hard-earned 0-for-1s Guerrero will ever experience.

In the third inning, Guerrero got revenge in the form of a solo home run to left-center field off Angels starter Matt Shoemaker.

Fox Sports West showed the career stats of former Cubs and Rays pitcher Jae Kuk Ryu during today’s telecast of the Dodgers-Angels game.

For a pitcher who speaks very little English, and has thrown three spring training innings in his major-league career, Hyun-Jin Ryu has revealed a lot about who he is as a pitcher in a short time.

Ryu started and threw two innings against the Angels on Friday, allowing four hits, two runs (both earned), walking one and striking out three. As is usually the case in spring training, the numbers didn’t really tell the story.
