The Dodgers placed right-hander Josh Beckett on the 60-day disabled list Saturday, a move that was an obvious one after Beckett told reporters Friday his season and possibly his career was over because of a hip injury. The club also selected the contract of outfielder Roger Bernadina from triple-A Albuquerque.
One day after it was reported that the Dodgers were signing Roger Bernadina, the journeyman outfielder was officially added to the roster of Triple-A Albuquerque. In a corresponding move, Alex Liddi was sent to Double-A Chattanooga after batting .219 with six home runs and 16 RBIs in 44 games.
With Pedro Baez being recalled to take Josh Beckett‘s place on the Dodgers’ major-league roster, left-handed reliever Robert Carson was called up to Albuquerque. He had a 2.12 ERA in 11 games at Double-A and a 10.34 ERA in 14 games with Albuquerque earlier in the season.
The Dodgers have reportedly signed former Reds, Phillies and Nationals outfielder Roger Bernadina to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Bernadina, 30, slashed .153/.286/.203 over 71 plate appearances for the Reds this season. He started 12 games, 11 in the outfield and one at first base.
Bernadina was designated for assignment when the Reds called up pitcher Carlos Contreras on June 21. Bernadina was previously designated for assignment on May 3 when Skip Schumaker was activated from the disabled list, but rejoined the team three days later when Jay Bruce was put on the DL.
Fox Sports Ohio ran a nice feature on Bernadina in the midst of spring training.
The Albuquerque Isotopes’ outfield is currently a bit cluttered. Mike Baxter, Trayvon Robinson and Brian Cavazos-Galvez are healthy. Infielder/outfielder Casio Grider was recently recalled from Double-A, Carl Crawford is currently in Albuquerque on a rehab assignment and Joc Pederson is on the disabled list with a mild shoulder separation.
