Dodgers acquire minor league infielder Rob Segedin from New York Yankees.

The Dodgers acquired minor league infielder/outfielder Rob Segedin, and a player to be named later or cash, from the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Ronald Torreyes and pitcher Tyler Olson on Tuesday.

Segedin, 27, had a .350 on-base percentage in 46 games last season for the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate.

The Dodgers recently designated Torreyes and Olson for assignment, so the trade doesn’t affect their 40-man roster.

Ronald Torreyes joins Dodgers, becomes their 55th player to appear in a game.

PHOENIX — Ronald Torreyes became the 55th different player to appear in a game for the Dodgers this season Sunday, the same day he was summoned from Triple-A Oklahoma City to add depth to an ailing infield.

The 55 different players extended a team record.

Torreyes can play all over the infield,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “With Jimmy (Rollins) and Alex (Guerrero) the other day, we got a little nervous about our infield depth.”

Torreyes took over at second base for Jose Peraza in the fifth inning of the Dodgers’ game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Peraza went 0-for-2 and made three plays in the field (he was on the turning end of a double play). The team hasn’t provided a reason yet why Peraza left the game, though he had some tightness in his hamstring recently.

Torreyes, 23, was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash in June. He is listed generously at 5-foot-10 and hails from Barinas, Venezuela.

In 13 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Torreyes had a .306 batting average, .340 on-base percentage and a .388 slugging percentage. He also played 62 games at Double-A Tulsa after the trade.

The Dodgers acquired 22-year-old infielder Ronald Torreyes from the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday and assigned him to Double-A Tulsa. Darwin Barney was designated for assignment to make room for Torreyes on the 40-man roster.

Barney had been slashing .214/.273/.259 at Triple-A Oklahoma City and only appeared in two games with the Dodgers this season.

Torreyes was playing for the New Hampshire FisherCats, the Blue Jays’ Double-A affiliate in the Eastern League, where he had just seven hits and four walks in 54 plate appearances. He began the season in the Houston Astros organization and batted .200 in 19 Triple-A games.

The Astros sent Torreyes to the Blue Jays for cash considerations on May 15.

Last season, Torreyes slashed .298/.345/.376 at Triple-A Oklahoma City — then a Houston Astros affiliate — and was added to the Astros’ 40-man roster after the season.

Torreyes signed with the Astros as a teenager out of Venezuela.
