The Dodgers agreed to terms on one-year contracts with two players Thursday: pitcher Chris Hatcher and first baseman/outfielder Scott Van Slyke.
According to the Associated Press, Van Slyke’s deal is worth $1,325,000 and Hatcher’s contract is worth $1.25 million.

The Dodgers selected Shawn Zarraga‘s contract from Triple-A, giving them a backup catcher on the day A.J. Ellis was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Carlos Ruiz. Ruiz is expected to arrive in Los Angeles in time for tomorrow’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
The Dodgers also reinstated Rob Segedin from paternity list and optioned pitcher Luis Avilan to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
In a corresponding move, Scott Van Slyke was transferred to the 60-day DL. Van Slyke had been on the 15-day disabled list, hoping to avoid season-ending surgery on his right wrist. Regardless of whether or not he has surgery, Van Slyke’s season is over. He is not eligible to be activated until Oct. 7, five days after the Dodgers’ final regular season game.
This is the first major league call-up for Zarraga, a 27-year-old career minor leaguer who’s shuttled between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The native of Aruba was slashing .194/.268/.222 at Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers placed Scott Van Slyke on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with what the team called inflammation in his right wrist. The first baseman/outfielder said this injury is related to the wrist injury that bothered him last season.
Chris Taylor was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take the roster spot of Van Slyke, who is batting .225 in 52 games this season.
Van Slyke also spent time on the disabled list earlier this year with a mid-back ailment. The Dodgers have placed 26 different players on the disabled list this season, believed to be one shy of the major league record.
The more Van Slyke spoke of his latest injury, the more trivial the DL record seemed.
“I’ve never not noticed it,” he said. “Since last year, I know I’ve lost range of motion. I’ve known it wasn’t normal.”
Trayce Thompson‘s back injury isn’t healing as well as expected, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the outfielder isn’t expected to return before September 1.
Thompson originally went on the disabled list July 10 with lower back tightness. Last week he hit off a tee and took batting practice, but did not travel with the Dodgers to Colorado. While he was expecting to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, that won’t happen now.
Thompson has 13 home runs and 32 RBIs in 80 games this season. He was batting .225 at the time of his injury just before the All-Star break.
A Sept. 1 return would at least eliminate one possible roster logjam. The Dodgers have used Scott Van Slyke as their primary right fielder against left-handed pitching, while new acquisition Josh Reddick gotten both starts against right-handed pitchers since he was acquired from the Oakland A’s on Monday.
Thompson has also seen time in left and center field this season.

Scott Van Slyke gets the start at first today, batting eighth against right-hander Chad Kuhl, who is making his major league debut for the Pirates.
