Doo Dah float designer Dave Lovejoy’s art installation leaving

Dave Lovejoy is one of the most creative artists I know, but then, I’m partial. Dave was the designer and chief artist for the Gallery at the End of the World’s float in this year’s Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade. The very same float that served as my outgoing Queen entry!  ~ the awesome and amusing castle on wheels.

If that doesn’t intrigue you, you may recall that I took a class in Raku pottery earlier this year and created two very cool vessels. Well, he was my teacher. … Yes, a man of many, many talents….

The weekend of the upcoming ArtNight Pasadena, October 9-11, will be the last opportunity to see Dave Lovejoy’s “Bouble Vision” art installation in the courtyard at 88 N. Fair Oaks. Ave, Pasadena.

Consisting of 1000 magnifying glasses suspended by over a mile of galvanized steel wire, the work has been hanging from the arbor in front of Majestical Roof since ArtNight 2008, when it was installed as part of Lovejoy’s exhibition, “Circular Logic”, made possible in part by a generous grant from the City Of Pasadena Department of Cultural Affairs.

“Bouble Vision” is currently on display 24/7, so you have hardly any excuse not to stop by and see it!

Royal time for all at L.A. County Fair Saturday

I will be returning to the Los Angeles County Fair this weekend for a command performance.

For several years, I have had the honor of dancing with my veils, swords and other surprises on the Fair’s community stage. This year, the show will be extra special, as I will be accompanied by drummer Ric Sarabia.

If you attend, you may get a weird feeling that somehow Ric looks very familiar… He should, as he’s an actor and has appeared in the film, “Changeling,” starring Angelina Jolie, and a cluster of television shows, including “Monk,” “Fringe,” “CSI” and more.

Ric will play his djembe for me and also share some of his own songs, which are quite appealing.

You can catch this unique performance at

12:45-1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26

Pepper Street Stage

Between buildings 5 and 8 near the Red Gate

After the show, please don’t by shy, come up and say hi!

Royal paparazzi

Being a celebrity has its issues and one of them is dealing with the paparazzi, but what if the paparazzi is the celebrity?

32nd Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Queen Skittles is not rude, pushy or unrelenting as the paparazzi, yet she is an avid shutterbug. In fact, she is not just a hobbyist, she is a professional photographer.

Queen Skittles exhibited some of her work at the Gallery at the End of the World’s Group Show two weeks ago. During the event, she took time to step out of the spotlight and capture some of the fun. Here’s a link to her photos from the four-day event:

Hmmmm.. that belly dancer, the one with the swords, looks very familiar…..

Enjoy!

I love a parade

The Los Angeles County Fair is in full swing and on weekends it adds to the fun with parades and community entertainment. I will be at the Fair twice to participate in these events.

The first time is 4 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 12), when I will be in the American the Beautiful Parade. It’s a celebration of diversity and opportunity with groups and bands from all over.

I’ll be heading back to perform on the 26th ~ more on that later.

Hope to see you at the Fair!

32nd Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Queen Skittles (aka Julie Klima) will be displaying some of her photography. This will be the first time she has shown at the venue and you will have the opportunity not only to view her work, but to purchase pieces you like to take home!

Friday night, my Birthday Eve, I will be dancing at the gallery with my swords and the very talented drumming of Ric Sarabia. The grounds will also be graced with my appearance at the Artists’ Reception Thursday evening and the brunch on Sunday.
