MORE ABOUT EFTA

Founded by the Department of Mental Health over 25 years ago, this prevention program is delivered by Light Bringer Project in partnership with Mental Health America of Los Angeles.

EFTA serves senior high school students across L.A. County who are challenged to develop visual and written forms of personal expression that address their key concerns and life ambitions.

The program culminates in an annual public exhibition and scholarship awards ceremony honoring outstanding student achievements.

LIGHT BRINGER PROJECT

Light Bringer Project is a nonprofit, Pasadena-based arts organization founded in 1990 by residents who were exploring the historic contributions that artists, architects, and craftsmen made to the local environment. Inspired by these achievements, its founders imagined ways to bring more of today’s artists and their creative resources into the mainstream of community life.

In keeping with its mission “to build community through the power of the arts,” Light Bringer Project has delivered a range of unique cultural arts programs and special events that utilize high-degrees of collaboration, volunteerism, and communitywide support. For its arts and learning efforts, the organization has received the California League of Cities’ Helen Putnam Award of Excellence in Public-Private Partnership. As an arts community participant, the organization was given the Gold Crown Award from the Pasadena Arts Council and has received an award of Outstanding Service from the City of Pasadena Arts Commission.

Letters keep coming ’bout Doo Dah

I just love fan mail!  And around Doo Dah time is when I seem to get the most. I’d like to share a couple more missives with you:

——

Hi Mickie!

To use an old country expression, “Well, I swan!”  Saw your avian-inspired dress in today’s Star-News.  Quite appropriate, considering that Lamanda Park is a few miles west of Arcadia.  All hail the Imperita emerita!
.

40770-z peacocks on Michillinda Ave-thumb-300x225-40769.jpg

Peacocks strolling on Michillinda Ave. (probably just west of the Arcadia city limits line).  Note that since there weren’t any peahens in the neighborhood, they didn’t go into their “If you’ve got, flaunt it” mode.  Some people call them “sport model turkeys”.

Hi Michelle!

Well, I got to see you again, at least. I tuned into the DooDah webcast in time to catch the in-your-face interview with you riding in the Corvette. Got to see you in your elaborate peacock costume. Why did I have the overwhelming urge to grab a syringe and vaccinate you for Pacheco’s disease and avian pox? Also caught a quick glimpse of you alongside the picture frame float (they kind of panned by that one pretty quickly).  Looks like you really had a fantastic time!   I’ll have to scan youtube and see if anyone’s posted any more footage of the parade.

 Congratulations on another DooDah success!

Russ
