The third annual Diverted Destruction show at The Loft at Liz's, features artists who turn castoff 113.jpgmaterial into art. Sandhi Schimmel creates mosaic pop art portraits from junk mail; Mary Larsen reuses floppy discs by using them as canvases for her paintings; the whimsical assemblages of incorporate vintage and repurposed objects Dave LovejoyFrank Miller uses discarded industrial and mechanical parts to create imagined bas-relief landscapes; reclaimed architectural objects are the foundation of Joan Robey's constructions; Rani Laik creates functional art objects out of salvaged steel. Richard Turner creates assemblages of imaginary religious idols with found pieces of flattened metal and electrical wire; used auto parts become functional objects in George Ousman Diagne's work, Gregg Hill creates sculptural objects from compressed trash cans, June Diamond transforms wine bottles into contemporary light fixtures, Ching Ching Cheng sculpts salvaged books into identifiable objects, and Annemarie Rawlinson assembles whimsical characters from metal scraps.

In addition to the art, the opening will offer guests the chance to become reuse artists themselves. Liz's Antique Hardware, the store downstairs from the Loft at Liz's, will give away hardware that is broken or too new to sell in the store. Check out the hardware in the alley and take home some inspiration!
