It can be sooo stressful constantly being in demand for one's wit and wisdom, but today it was tempered by the most charming of interviewers.

John Rabe, host of KPCC's "Off-Ramp," called to chat with me about what it's like to be Doo Dah Royalty and what tips I have for potential queens.

You can listen to our tete-a-tete on "Off-Ramp" on the air at 89.3 FM noon Saturday, Jan. 16 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17. If you're too excited to wait for the weekend, you can download it online at:

With Doo Dah queen tryouts being announced for February, he wanted an inside scoop on what it's like to be the queen and what a queen should do, so of course John contacted someone with experience-- me!

Here at newspaper central, the annual Rose magazine is always a massive undertaking. We strive for the best writers, best photographers and best stories to add our shine to the must-have Rose Parade guide.

This year, I was asked to write a story about the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade, the foil to the New Year's Day event in Pasadena. Not to be outdone by the OTHER PARADE's royal court, I consulted with Doo Dah Tsar Tom Coston and Tsarina Patricia Hurley on a shocking tale that you cannot miss~

DOO DAH ROYAL COURT MEMBERS' SECRETS REVEALED!!!

READ how royalty selects the proper attire for the OTHER OCCASION of the year.

SEE stunning royal portraits by current Doo Dah Queen Skittles, including mine featuring the Royal Pup Atticus.

LEARN how you can be your Doo Dah best during try-outs in February and the parade in May.

BUT WAIT! There's more... you'll have to check it out for yourself...

OK, so you may be savvy already, having received a copy of The Rose in your Pasadena Star-News on Sunday, but if you aren't, there's still time. You can buy the magazine in Pasadena during the Rose Parade on Friday! Friday!! Friday!!!

Be informed and be one of the beautiful people... oh, and carry on, as you were,

Queen Mickie

You can start the ball rolling by surprising someone by being nice to them.

I plan to give Mr. Squirrel a day off from our usual chase and to share my Snausages with my friend Indiana Bones instead of hiding them like I usually do. And I may even ignore the cat next door when he jumps up on the wall to tease me.

If you weren't there, you missed a great time. The No Doo Dah Day Party was a well-spent afternoon.

Many royals were in attendance and Snotty Scotty & the Hankies' repertoire kept the dance floor grooving. Also the American Legion is aptly noted for its great chili and cheap drinks, so no one went hungry or thirsty during the event.

Pultizer-prize deserving photographer Terry Miller was there to catch all the action and being that he is one of my knights and holds the honor of being my Royal Photographer, he has sweetly passed on some moments for me to share with you.

Enjoy!

If you keep up on these things - and you should - you may have noticed that the Light Bringer Project's Web site for its Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade merely states that the event will be held in 2010. There is no date set yet for the parade nor is there any mention of auditions for the Royal Court.

Don't fret, as LBP is working out a few details and will have all the information on the parade that you could want and more soon. I will also be posting information here for you too as it becomes available.

There is a big upside to all of this~ you now have more time to plan your parade entry and, for those of you who are more ambitious, perfect your talent for the big audition.

I know it's early, but I want to make sure you don't miss out on a fun opportunity!

The Gallery at the End of the World will again be sponsoring the Queen of Arts float, also known as the Very Outgoing Queen entry, in the 33rd Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade on Sunday, Jan. 17.

Artist Dave Lovejoy has offered to man the helm for a second time, lending his amazing talents to come up with an extraordinary float design to properly fete outgoing Queen Skittles.

Here's where you come in:

The Gallery at the End of the World is seeking people to help work on the float over several weekends. No art experience is necessary, just a good attitude. Dates to be determined, but definitely in the latter part of December and early January.

People are also invited to be part of the entry on parade day, Jan. 17. You will can wear whatever costume you like and may walk, bicycle, skateboard, rollerskate or travel down the route with us in any non-motorized fashion you desire. Props relating to the entry will be provided for you.

The Gallery is also especially seeking percussionists and other people with a penchant for rhythm~ we want to make some noise as we travel the route! Some instruments will be provided.

For more information and to get on our e-mailing list so you can receive updates on the Queen of Arts float, drop me an e-mail at michelle.mills@sgvn.com Indicate GATOW float in the subject line.

Now, carry on, as you were,

Being a celebrity has its issues and one of them is dealing with the paparazzi, but what if the paparazzi is the celebrity?

32nd Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Queen Skittles is not rude, pushy or unrelenting as the paparazzi, yet she is an avid shutterbug. In fact, she is not just a hobbyist, she is a professional photographer.

Queen Skittles exhibited some of her work at the Gallery at the End of the World's Group Show two weeks ago. During the event, she took time to step out of the spotlight and capture some of the fun. Here's a link to her photos from the four-day event:

Hmmmm.. that belly dancer, the one with the swords, looks very familiar.....

Enjoy!
