Two popular exhibitions at Pasadena Museum of History will come to a close at 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 13.
What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been: 35 Years of the Pasadena Doo Dah Parade is a colorful, fun-filled exhibition exploring the wacky and irreverent world of Doo Dah, including “the other” parade’s origins, and the social significance of this counter-culture public spectacle. Displays include a photo wall of parade and crowd shots; vignettes of entries – including the BBQ & Hibachi Grill Team, the Synchronized Precision Marching Briefcase Drill Team, plus costumes and memorabilia of various Queens and music groups.
Pacific Electric Railway, Then & Now, based on the book of the same name by authors and exhibition co-curators Steve Crise and Michael Patris, brings the famed railway back to life through images and artifacts. The exhibition at PMH includes an expanded collection of images found in the book from the Pacific Electric Railway Historical Society archives, including rare images from the past that are compared to what can be seen in the same locations today, as seen through the lens of photographer Steve Crise. Additionally, an original advertising painting from the Pacific Electric Railway is on display for the first time in generations, as well as three new paintings by renowned artist Harlan Hiney, who uses historic images to create new works of art.

Atticus, the Royal Pup, passed away a year ago today.
As “a little dog in search of big adventure,” he shared his fun on this blog and everywhere he went. He was a happy soul and also a wise one.
Please take a few minutes today to remember someone – human or animal – who made your life just a little more adventurous and special. Atticus would like that.
I always enjoy it when I get a little surprise in my e-mail, like this photo from Terry Miller. Sir Terrence shot this during a Doo Dah audition years ago. I like it because I look like some mystical gypsy standing there in the bubbles, but with that funny look on my face, I wonder what I was thinking…
Speaking of the past, items are still being sought for the upcoming Doo Dah exhibit at the Pasadena Museum of History. If you have any memorabilia – from costumes to photographs and anything in between – please bring it to the American Legion in Pasadena 2-6 p.m. Sunday, July 22. For more information, look at the post below.
