From the Ducks’ 3-2 shootout win over the Stars, stuff that didn’t make the paper:
The victory breaks the franchise record for home wins in a season (27-9-4)
Chris Kunitz hadn’t made a shootout goal all season before notching the game winner. In fact, only four guys in practice Saturday scored during the shootout drill: Todd Marchant, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Joe DiPenta and Todd Bertuzzi. Carlyle sent NONE of them out in the shootout.
Getzlaf’s two assists moved him into a tie for 16th (with Eric Staal) in the NHL in points with 79. Undoubtedly because of the potential for re-injuring his shoulder, Getzlaf didn’t take a single faceoff all game until going in there with 3 seconds left in overtime. Good to see Carlyle recognize the importance of winning that one.
Scott Niedermayer played 32:22 ice time, which is ridiculously high.
The checking line of Brad May, Brian Sutherby and George Parros got 10 shifts during even-strength time, which is UP, and were even out there with under 4 minutes to play in regulation. They did nothing scoreboard-wise, but Parros’ moustache got plenty of applause.
