The dumbest penalty I’ve seen all year

Belonged to Ducks defenseman Kent Huskins in their 4-0 loss to Dallas in Game 1 on Thursday.

Kent Huskins knows that playing with a broken stick is a two-minute minor; dude had a better plus-minus rating than any defenseman on this team. With nine seconds left in the second period not a lot of time to kill here Huskins broke his stick trying to clear a puck out of the offensive zone. The puck trickled a few feet away, as did the bottom half of Huskins stick, but instead of kicking the puck out of harms way with a Dallas player on the way, what did he do? Dude takes a big ol whack at it with the shaft of his broken stick.

Kent, what the heck were you thinking?

“It was such a weird thing. I had the puck on my stick, I kind of went to pass it. The stick kind of broke in two. The puck was just kinda laying there. I don’t know, it was instinct play, trying to get it out of the zone. Within an instant, I realized my mistake, but what can you do? It was over and done with.”
