The Finnish flash
The Ducks broke a 2-year-old team record at the end of the first period when Joe DiPenta and Teemu Selanne scored goals eight second apart. Selanne and Chris Kunitz scored 10 seconds apart in 2005. No surprise that Selanne involved in both records.
DiPenta's contribution was somewhat of a surprise. It was his first goal of the season and probably the only reason he wasn't scratched from this game is because the Ducks already locked up the No. 4 seed the night before. I talked to DiPenta earlier in the week about his stick. He's one of only 13 guys in the league who use a wood stick, and he said he doesn't like the feel of the composite sticks, even though it gives you a harder shot. Scoring goals, he said, "isn't part of my game."
Don't sell yourself short, Joe. Your goal is in the record books now.
