Ducks move ECHL affiliate to Bakersfield

Starting in 2008-09, no more minor-league recalls from Georgia.

The Ducks are moving their ECHL minor-league affiliate to Bakersfield beginning in ’08-09. ECHL stands for East Coast Hockey League, and having an East Coast Hockey League team in California makes about as much sense as a minor-league call-up from Augusta, Georgia, to Portland, Maine, or Anaheim, California. But I digress.

Brian Burke had been hinting at a move for some time, so this wasn’t much of a surprise. The Ducks’ travel bill will be considerably less, not to mention the time required to get a minor-league in uniform in emergency situations. The full press release is here.
