Whoever had goaltender David LeNeveu in the Who-Will-Be-The-First-Player-Recalled-From-Iowa pool, give yourself a pat on the back.
The Ducks will place Brad Larsen (sports hernia) on long-term injured reserve (LTI), leaving room on the roster and under the salary cap to add LeNeveu, who will be the team’s third goaltender. He appeared in two preseason games this year, going 1-0-1 with a 2.40 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.
– When a player is placed on LTI, a team is allowed to go over the salary cap by the amount of his salary minus the amount the team is below the cap at the time the player is placed on LTI.
– By recalling LeNeveu and having him on the opening-day roster, the Ducks have a cap number of $56,673,300, or $26,670 from the salary cap.
– The Ducks will put Larsen on long-term injury status and are eligible to go over the cap by $535,000 minus $26,670.
– If the Ducks go over the cap because of this provision, it must be a player that makes less than Larsen’s salary. (Meaning not Bobby Ryan, if you had Bobby Ryan in The Pool.)
