Ducks get some extra credit.

The Ducks announced today that the club was recently honored with the statewide Celebrate Literacy Award presented by the California Reading Association (CRA). Selected from 60 nominees throughoutCalifornia, the Ducks award-winning S.C.O.R.E. program will continue to spread its initiatives by hostingReading is the GOALday tomorrowatWalterKnottElementary SchoolinBuena Park. Ducks playersRyan CarterandSamuel Pahlssonwill be on hand to participate in the festivities.

Reading is the GOALday at Walter Knott Elementary is themed around promoting literacy and the importance of education.Carter and Pahlsson will appear at a school-wide assembly beginning at 9 a.m. Following the assembly, Ducks staff members will read to first, second, third and fourth grade classes from 10:15 to 11 a.m. During the children’s lunch periods, several Ducks staff members will participate in street hockey games on the school playground. In addition, the California Teacher’s Association, a chapter of the National Education Association, is supportingReading is the GOALDay by providingBarnes and Noble gift cards as prizes for kids who excel in theReading is the GOALprogram.
