Selanne in pregame skate, lineup. Update.

Teemu Selanne took part in a pregame skate for the first time since that fateful December day in Edmonton when his skate blade poked a hole in his quadricep … and joined the bench to start the game.

He is on the second line with Bobby Ryan and Brendan Morrison.

The other lines are the same as last night:

Perry-Getzlaf-Kunitz
Moen-Pahlsson-R.Niedemayer
Parros-Carter-Miller

S.Niedermayer-Festerling
Pronger-Mikkelson
Montador-Hedican

Ducks 7, Coyotes 3. Updated with quotes.

In the most recent battle for the underhyped title of who-should-the-Ducks-have-kept-as-their-backup-goalie, both Jonas Hiller and Ilya Bryzgalov looked very disinterested in claiming bragging rights.

Ten goals, 63 shots on goal, and clearly the message to the Ducks’ skaters got through. With Bob Murray putting his team on notice over the weekend that he’s willing to shake up the roster if they can’t play themselves into contention, maybe every man (finally) played this game as if he could be on the trading block. (Clearly, Hiller wasn’t bothered by this prospect).

Steve Kampfer video on YouTube.

It only took a couple days … here is the video of the on-ice attack that put Ducks prospect Steve Kampfer in the hospital:

Miller, Mikkelson recalled.

No surprise here – the Ducks brought back Drew Miller and Brendan Mikkelson from Iowa. They’ll be on the roster for tomorrow’s game in Phoenix.

Miller has scored 0-2=2 points with a +1 rating and seven penalty minutes in eight games with the Ducks this season.Mikkelson is scoreless with eight PIM in 11 games with Anaheim this season.

Steve Kampfer update.

Asked about the Chris Pronger-to-the-Maple Leafs rumour begun in the Ottawa Sun, Ducks GM Bob Murray had this to say: “Brian and I have emailed
each other today about 7 times and not once was there any talk of a trade. It
was about one of our former draft picks who got hurt in a game, Steve Kampfer. That’s
what got talked about.”

Huskins has surgery, out 4-6 weeks.

Defenseman Kent Huskins underwent surgery today on his fractured right foot at the Kerlan-Jobe Center in Los Angeles. Huskins, who hasn’t played since Dec. 31, will miss an additional 4-6 weeks. Team doctors didn’t expect Huskins to require surgery initially, but apparently the bone wasn’t healing as hoped for. Huskins had surgery to stabilize the fracture by inserting two screws into the ankle. The surgery was performed by Dr. Ken Jung.

This would appear to leave an opening for a defenseman (probably Brendan Mikkelson) to come up from Iowa, but no moves are expected today.

NHLPA won’t terminate CBA.

The NHL players won’t be striking anytime soon. Its Players’ Association announced this morning it will not terminate the Collective Bargaining Agreement ratified after the 2004-05 lockout, an option they had written into the CBA when it was ratified in ’05. There was healthy speculation that they would.

Miller, Bodie, Mikkelson down.

Perhapsto get them more playing time in the minors– orin anticipation that Todd Marchant, Teemu Selanne and Kent Huskins are going to be ready to play in the next six days– the Ducks sent Drew Miller, Troy Bodie and Brendan Mikkelson back to Iowa.

Miller had two assists in eight games, Bodie was scoreless in a brief three-game stint, and Mikkelson was scoreless in an otherwise fairly productive 11 NHL games. With the all-star break beginning, the Ducks don’t play again until Jan. 27 in Phoenix, so there was no use keeping any of the three up, regardless of whether or not they’ll be coming back. Which they might. Stay tuned.

Islanders 2, Ducks 1.

The difference in this game was theaforementioned performance of J-S Giguere; if you exclude the two goals he allowed in the first period (on the Islanders’ first seven shots), this is a spectacular goalie duel between Jonas Hiller and Jann Danis.

Instead, it’s the Ducks’ second straight loss and their sixth in their last eight games heading into the All-Star break. The Islanders were riding an 8-game losing streak of their own coming into this one.
