“We’re not afraid to go back to Giguere,” Randy Carlyle said on Sunday, and four days later the coach put the Ducks’ $6 million goalie where his mouth is.

Ducks starting lineup.
The biggest news out of Nashville (if your house isn’t without electricity, that is), is that Jean-Sebastien Giguere is starting in net for the Ducks. It’s Jiggy’s first start since the All-Star game, and first since Jan. 21 in games that count. Brendan Morrison, a healthy scratch the last two games, is back in the lineup as is newcomer Mike Brown, wearing lucky #13.
This SI piece, however, is online.
Sports Illustrated’s Bobby Ryan feature on stands now.
I bumped into Michael Farber at practice at Anaheim Ice last week, which could only mean one thing: The Ducks were getting a moment in Sports Illustrated. It came this week.

Wild 3, Ducks 0.
On a night when Minnesota goalie Nicklas Backstrom was far and away the best player on the ice, the Ducks didn’t seem to stand a chance. And there really isn’t that much else to say.
Starting lineup in Minnesota
McIver traded to Vancouver.
In a whirlwind 24 hours for the unheralded defenseman, Nathan McIver is going back to the Vancouver Canucks for RW Mike Brown.

McIver clears waivers; Pahlsson still at home. Update.
The Ducks have left for Minnesota and defenseman Nathan McIver, who was placed on waivers yesterday, went unclaimed and is going on the trip. Sammy Pahlsson isn’t, though the results of his medical evaluation this morning aren’t in yet.
Update (5:45 p.m.): Pahlsson has been diagnosed with a mild viral infection which will keep him out of action for two weeks. A team spokesman said it isn’t considered serious.
Ryan Carter assumed Pahlsson’s spot on the checking line last night, getting the bulk of the 5-on-5 minutes, while Todd Marchant centered the energy line and played the bulk of the short-handed minutes. Expect similar roles in the coming weeks from those two. Fortunately for the Ducks, both Carter and Marchant played fairly well last night against Buffalo. Also fortunately, the next two weeks represent a fairly light stretch in the schedule. After three road games this week, the Ducks play just three games over the next 10 days, all at home.
