From http://starsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/03/steve-ott-gets-one-game.html:
Steve Ott has received a one-game suspension for his eye gouging with Travis Moen at the end of Saturday’s game. Ott served that Sunday against Pittsburgh and is eligible to play Tuesday at San Jose.
Ott received a match penalty, given for deliberately trying to injure an opponent, for his actions during a fight with Moen following Saturday’s 4-3 victory by visiting Anaheim.
The 26-year-old Ott was suspended for gouging Moen’s eye during the altercation, which occurred seconds after the final horn sounded.
Ott sat out Sunday’s 4-1 loss to visiting Pittsburgh and will not play until he has a hearing with NHL officials, who will determine the length of his suspension.
A lot of people think the suspension was a bit over the top, but I can’t really comment because I couldn’t see through the scrum during the broadcast. What I can’t believe is that Jiggy only received a 2 minute minor. Sorry for being overly critical, but I was under the impression that crosschecking someone from behind and then punching them in the back of the head would constitute a somewhat more severe penalty. Now, don’t get me wrong. J-S is my favourite Duck, but on Saturday he used his goalie powers for evil, not good.
