Bobby Ryan brushed Dustin Penner aside as the Ducks’ leader for points scored as a rookie with an assist in the Ducks’ 6-2 win Sunday.
“Our guys have let me know that it was coming, so it was nice to get it out of the way and continue to roll,” Ryan said. “The more important thing of the night is the two points obviously for us.”
He’s making a nice case for Calder Trophy honors, too (though Columbus goalie Steve Mason and Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne might have something to say about that). Ryan leads all rookies with 24 goals and his 43 points are second only to Kris Versteeg’s 46.
Ryan is five goals behind Penner’s 29 and four assists behind Francois Beauchemin’s 26 for the franchise rookie record in each category. He’s got 10 games left to do it, and is averaging 0.5 goals per game and 0.4 assists per game this season, so both records are perfectly within reach.
