Wild 3, Ducks 2.

It would be one thing if the Ducks’ second straight loss
could be pinned on all these new guys who have joined the team over the past
two weeks — learning a new system, learning new linemates, being thrown into a playoff race.

But on Sunday the Ducks suffered from many of the same
mistakes, by many of the same players, that have crippled them all season. And,
not surprisingly, they suffered the same fate against the Minnesota Wild as
they did Friday against the Dallas Stars, a 3-2 defeat.

How does that feel?

“It’s frustrating as hell,” said coach Randy Carlyle.

Stars 3, Ducks 2.

If Marty Turco wasn’t giving the Ducks nightmares before turning aside 36 of 38 shots Friday night … it’s because seemingly half the guys in a Ducks uniform were brand-new to the Pacific Division.

You can only hope the Ducks are still dreaming big after losing despite outshooting Dallas 38-16. Pronger: ‘Maybe they just didn’t get the right offer.’

Chris Pronger wasn’t precisely sure why he wasn’t traded before Wednesday’s deadline. But after it was suggested that maybe the Ducks’ brass was confident about the group led by himself and Scott Niedermayer, the big defenseman quickly pointed out that “maybe they just didn’t get the right offer.”


He was kidding without kidding. Nobody does it better.

Randy Carlyle on Wednesday’s trades.

The Ducks head coach said Thursday that he’s never had to replace five players overnight, and plug as many new pieces in for a game two days later. On the other hand, he was “not at all” surprised that Brendan Morrison, Steve Montador, Kent Huskins, Travis Moen and Sammy Pahlsson were all gone by the time the trade deadline had expired Wednesday.
