Ducks-Sharks regular-season series recap

Here’s how the Ducks and Sharks did in their six regular-season meetings (with a Sharks slant)…

From http://www.mercurynews.com/sharks/ci_12130240:

Oct. 9: Sharks 4, Ducks 1

Jonathan Cheechoo scored twice, and the crowd saw stellar debuts by Rob Blake (two assists), Dan Boyle (one assist) and Coach Todd McLellan at HP Pavilion. “I don’t know if there’s anything close to a perfect game, but it was a nice feeling when the buzzer went,” McLellan said.

Oct. 17: Ducks 4, Sharks 0

The visiting Sharks outshot Anaheim 38-20, but Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere could not be beaten. “They capitalized on their chances. We had a ton of shots and generated a lot of offense, but I don’t think we got good quality scoring chances,” San Jose’s Marc-Edouard Vlasic said.

Dec. 11: Sharks 2, Ducks 0

Evgeni Nabokov made 31 saves and Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist, but perhaps more important was that the Sharks refused to be bullied at home. “It wasn’t quite the kind of games we’ve been playing, a free-flowing one,” Coach Todd McLellan said. “It was a little uglier, a little more muck-and-grind along the boards, and I was happy with the way we competed in those areas.”

March 15: Sharks 1, Ducks 0

San Jose acquired Travis Moen from Anaheim less than two weeks before this game. After receiving a video tribute from his former team and a loud ovation from the crowd, Moen scored a second-period goal that gave the Sharks the win. “It’s nice to win; coming back that was the main goal, get two points and have fun,” Moen said.

April 4: Ducks 5, Sharks 2

Ryan Getzlaf scored one goal and assisted on three as Anaheim won at HP Pavilion. “They were flat-out dominant,” Sharks Coach Todd McLellan said of the Ducks’ Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry. “They were the top players in the game. We had last change, we could have matched anybody we wanted, but it wouldn’t have mattered. They were playing that well.”

April 5: Sharks 3, Ducks 2

Joe Pavelski and Jonathan Cheechoo scored the tying and go-ahead goals during power plays and the Sharks set a franchise record with their 52nd victory. A fracas at the end of the game resulted in 64 penalty minutes between the teams. Sharks Coach Todd McLellan peered into the future and noted, “If the playoffs come, I think it’d be a heck of a series.”
