Postgame quotes.

We’ll start with my favorite, from Bobby Ryan, when asked if he felt the earthquake between the first and second period: “Randy was ranting and raving a little bit. That’s the only earthquake we heard.”

Onto the rest…

Bobby Ryan
On his line:
We haven’t been as good as we want to be. For us to come out and get a couple, it is a huge night for us and ultimately the team.

On having a 3-1 lead in the series:
I don’t think they expected this. We’ve said all along we aren’t your typical eight seed. Obviously, we feel like we belong in that upper echelon in this Western Conference. A roller coaster year put us there. But we certainly knew we could make some noise.

Jonas Hiller
On having a 3-1 lead in the series:
I think everybody knows the fourth game is the most difficult to win. I think we showed a reaction tonight after last game where we were not happy how we played. Tonight everybody was fighting and giving a little more. We definitely deserved to win. If we keep going that way, we definitely have a chance for that fourth win.

On the defensive effort:
I think we played pretty well defensively. We had their guy and they almost had no chance for rebounds. That makes the job a lot easier for me. I saw the puck quite well. I don’t think they had less traffic or anything. I think I was pretty solid today with moving my head and trying to find the puck.

Randy Carlyle
The game was very tight. I don’t think you can really look at it and say it was a 4-0 hockey game. I think it very intense hockey and it was played at a very high pace. It was a 1-0 game up until the 10-minute mark of the second period, so once bounce can go against you or once bounce could go for you. Fortunately, enough bounces went our way tonight.

On the defensive effort:
In the playoffs, scoring goals is at a premium. I don’t think we would say that we’ve scored a ton of goals. These games are very close. Sometimes the score isn’t really, truly indicative of how close the game really is. They had quality scoring chances. We had a big effort by our penalty killers tonight. That is always important. We were disciplined.

Evgeni Nabokov
We obviously lost a really important game. We have to find a way to score more goals. Every time they get the lead, they’re a confident team. Somehow we have to avoid that.

On team character:
When you’re losing games like this, it’s always going to be questioned. There’s going to be a lot of questions. When you lose the game or when you’re losing the series, a lot of things get questioned. Obviously there’s something they’re doing right and something we’re not doing right.

Dan Boyle
We’re down 3-1 to a team that’s playing well. A lot of people believe we can probably come back. We need to focus on the guys in the locker room. We just have to show up with a desperate attitude. I think we were lacking that tonight. It’s a turning point in the series tonight. We needed it more and we didn’t get it.

On Anaheim’s top line:
They’re a good line. The guys that are out that there have to do a good job against them. Obviously they’re winning the series for them right now. There’s a lot of things they want to do out there. We just need to be more physical, be in there end, not let them have the puck as much. There are plenty of things you can do and we’re not doing it right now.

Todd McLellan
It’s a disappointment. Disappointing because we are better than we showed tonight. I thought that their team was extremely hungry. They won a lot of the board battles and loose puck battles. Their back pressure was second to none. They didn’t give us much time. They were very committed.

I’m not surprised that they were hungry. I’m disappointed that we weren’t (hungry). That’s the only word I can use is ‘disappointed.’ I think our character was questioned tonight and we’ll have to see how we respond back in San Jose.

On Anaheim’s top line:
We haven’t had any luck, have we? Depending on what pair we put on the ice, they haven’t been able to handle them down low, especially tonight. For the most part, most of the damaged has been done by Bobby Ryan. He’s a tremendous player and he has a ton of skill. Ryan Getzlaf has the size and the ability to get him the puck. We’ll have to look at our line-up and our lines again, with the last change perhaps it will help. It didn’t really matter who we put on the ice. It was very reminiscent of a game in San Jose about a month ago where it didn’t matter who we put on the ice, they were just that strong.
