On playing to the game plan:
I don't know if you can say that it was a perfect hockey game on our part, by any stretch of the imagination. We took far too many penalties, the number one thing. We gave ourselves a taxing even on the penalty kill. We took consecutive penalties, really wore our penalty killers out, some of the players who play that role, specifically it's really tough on your goaltender if you're going to continue to take penalties. A couple of them were in the offensive zone, which were a big no-no. I think we've talked and talked and talked and talked about taking penalties. We're slow learners, I guess.
In light of Hiller's performance, is experience overrated?
I think with Jonas, it's a different situation. He wasn't just a raw rookie. He was a guy who was an aged European who's played in some European championships, played in the Swiss professional league and won championships. Those are not what you would say are easy situations to play under. There's a lot of pressure that goes with that. What he's done for himself, he's a real calm guy. He doesn't seem to get one way or the other -- doesn't get too high, doesn't get too low. He just kind of rolls with things.
On Ryan Getzlaf's game:
We'd like to see him shoot the puck like he did on a regular basis. When you see him shoot the puck like that, you wonder why he always wants to pass it. We're always after him to shoot the puck. He doesn't have to slap the puck. He's got a wrist shot that would be in the top grouping of the league. He can really shoot the wrist shot, and he's deadly accurate with it. He has a tendency to want to overpass, to dish the puck too much, and we're always asking him -- Getzy's a big-time player. He can play the game at a high level. When you think he's playing well, he's got the ability to step it to a higher level.
He's done it before at a very young age, and he's taking the responsibility that the expectations are high for him. He's got to play extremely well for us to have any chance in the series.
On penalty kill:
A lot of the times, those guys don't get credit -- Todd Marchant, Mike Brown, Nokelainen, Drew Miller, Robby Niedermayer, our whole corps of defense and our goaltender. Usually in situations when you're killing multiple penalties, consecutive penalties, it's your goaltender again that is called upon probably too much. I thought Jonas was outstanding in that area. Again, with our penalty killing, it's been criticized throughout the course of the season. We've had stretches where we couldn't kill a penalty. Now, hopefully, this is a sign that we can build on something.
