Here it is:
Thirty-four seconds into the second period Sunday, Selanne became one
of 18 players to reach the milestone, one week to the day after scoring
No. 599 against the San Jose Sharks.
“I guess that was the easiest that I have had in
a while,” said Selanne, who was congratulated by every one of his teammates on the ice.
“It’s funny how it works. I’ve felt that I have had a lot of chances
the last three or four games, but nothing was going in. Then, you get
one of
those on a great effort from Corey (Perry) and Scotty (Niedermayer). The way my teammates have
been
feeding me has been amazing.
“I think they wanted this more than I did.
It’s a great feeling.”
Said Niedermayer, “There was a little underlying feeling when you’re
on
the ice with him. You want to at least give him the opportunity. It
shows what
kind of teammate and person he is. He is a great guy and we were
definitely
pulling for him.”
Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle was happy to see Selanne reach the milestone at home – the team leaves tomorrow for a three-game Western Canada swing.
“It’s always nice to see when an
athlete is rewarded with his success in his own building,” Carlyle said. “That is quite a
milestone.“
Selanne is one goal short of tying his
boyhood idol and former teammate Jari Kurri, for 17th on the all-time

Already the NHL’s active leader in goals, Selanne is the third European player to score 600 NHL goals, following Jagr (Czech Republic) and Kurri (Finland). He is also the seventh right winger to join the list (Gordie Howe, Brett Hull, Mike Gartner, Jagr, Dino Ciccarelli and Kurri).
