Ducks notes, part II: Murray on chair incident

from Sunday’s Ducks notebook, which didn’t make it to the web in every market…

General manager Bob Murray downplayed reports Saturday he “cross-checked” a Red Wings fan with a chairin the Joe Louis Arena press box after Thursday’s game.

“It was a total accident,” Murray said. “I spoke to her and cleared it up.”

McIver to Iowa.

Marchant likely back next week.

Forward Todd Marchant will see a hand specialist to have a pin removed from his left little finger Monday, and hopes to play shortly thereafter. “Keep your fingers crossed,” he said, noting the irony, after Friday’s practice.

“I’m able to do pretty much whatever I can right now. I’m able to skate every day, stay in shape. I haven’t missed a day since … two days after the surgery. I don’t anticipate it being much longer after the pin’s removed.”

Marchant hasn’t played since January 8, and underwent surgery to place the pin four days later. Without him in the lineup, the Ducks are 3-6.

Added Randy Carlyle: “If he can bear through the pain, he’ll play. … They feel that it’ll be a matter of taping the fingers together, making the configuration of his glove a little different.”

The Sarah Palin quest continues.

I swear, if she doesn’t become our next vice president, at least Sarah Palin will have set the record for most ceremonial appearances at hockey games to start a season.

This past weekend brought her to … Des Moines, Iowa, where she was presented with an Iowa Chops jersey by the principals of the Ducks’ American Hockey League affiliate. A photo and brief write-up can be found here.

They covered the spread.

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) — With more goals than minutes in the game, Slovakia’s women’s ice hockey team claimed an amazing 82-0 victory over Bulgaria in Olympic qualifying.

Slovakia outshot the Bulgarians 139-0 during the 60-minute game, played in Latvia. The margin of victory is a record for a women’s International Ice Hockey Federation-sanctioned event.

“We took it as training,” Slovakia coach Miroslav Karafiat said after Saturday’s game.
