Up and coming gangsters

Trial continues today for two Echo Park gang members accused of doing a drive-by shooting on a 16-year-old Glendale boy in 2004. Prosecutors said Carlos Palma, now 20, and Julian Martinez, now 21, are accused of killing Carlos Pinon as a way to earn their stripes in a local street gang, though there also may have been a beef over a girl. Attorneys are presenting their defense in the first-degree murder case with gang enhancements and an attempted murder charge -- Pinon's friend, Juan Beltran, was injured in the shooting.

Here's a partial copy of the charges.
