Glendale City Manager Jim Starbird announced today that Hassan Haghani has been appointed Director of Planning. Haghani’s appointment was unanimously approved last night by the Glendale City Council.
Haghani, 47, has been serving as Interim Director following the retirement last December of Elaine Wilkerson. “Hassan has done a good job as Interim Director,” says Starbird. “He is capable of providing leadership on the complex planning issues and is well respected in professional circles.” Starbird added that Haghani has a good balance in his ability to deal with day to day code issues as well as give guidance on broader long-range planning issues.
Haghani says he is looking forward to working with the community. "Good city planning requires ongoing dialogue with the entire community," says Haghani. “My goal is to develop a constituency for excellence in planning, capturing the community's overall vision for the city's future and ensuring that our policies and practices reflect that vision.”
Prior to being appointed Interim Director, Haghani served four years as Assistant Director of Planning for Glendale. Haghani served as Transportation Manager for the City of South Pasadena from 2002-2003, and as an Associate and Senior Planner for the City of West Hollywood from 1994-2002.
Haghani has an M.A. in Urban Planning and a B.A. in Applied Cultural Anthropology from the University of California Los Angeles.
