Early-Morning Blaze at Glendale Duplex; No Injuries*

On Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 7:46 AM, 3 Companies of Glendale Firefighters, 2 Companies of Burbank Firefighters, 1 Glendale Fire Rescue Ambulance, and the Glendale Arson Investigation Unit under the direction of Battalion Chief Corey Creasey responded to a Structure Fire at110 S. Irving1820 Riverside Dr. in Glendale.

Glendale Engine 27 arrived on-scene and discovered a two-story duplex with smoke emitting from an open door on the second floor. Engine Company Firefighters coordinated an aggressive attack by extending hose lines via the external stairwell advancing into the second floor to initiate fire attack. In coordination with Engine Company operations, Truck company members performed vertical ventilation of the structure.
Entering the second floor, firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions with visible fire in the kitchen area. As firefighters advanced through the interior attacking the fire, a primary search of the unit was also accomplished. Completing primary search no occupants were located in the structure. The affected unit was equipped with a smoke detector that had activated; fortunately, the occupant was not present and had left the home earlier in the morning.
It took the members of the Glendale & Burbank Fire Departments just 22 minutes to report a knockdown of the fire at 8:08 AM. Extensive overhaul was performed by firefighters to confirm extinguishment of the fire and contents while additional fire companies addressed property salvage on the first and second floors. No civilian injuries or fatalities occurred. The early morning fire was accidental in nature and attributed to a mechanical failure in the clothes dryer according to the Arson investigator. At the time of this report damage assessment has not been reported. Duration of incident was 3 hours and 01 minute.
