Prince of darkness to descend upon the Glendale Library

novak2.jpg Attention secret agents trying to escape detection, avoid the Glendale Public Library because Robert Novak will be swinging by there on his book tour.

That's right, the "Prince of Darkness" himself will be enlightening us all on how to out a CIA agent, how to be considered a Democrat and a "paleoconservative" at the same time and how James Carville was able to push his buttons on CNN. Well, maybe we won't get all of that, but Novak will talk about his ironically titled book, "Prince of Darkness."

Apparently, Novak is a fan of coqfighting, having seen it up close in Puerto Rico and reported like a true patrician that he "enjoyed it tremendously." During a CNN debate, Novak also said he sees nothing wrong with dogfighting. So why did he storm out when Carville nudged him a little on CNN during the Valerie Plame leak scandal? Was the old hound getting a little long in the tooth, or was it just some theater to avoid answering hard questions?

I remember seeing plenty of Robert Novak when I was a geeky middle-school student who came home every day to watch "Crossfire" on CNN, where Novak came off as somewhat of a Biff Tannen to Michael Kinsley's Marty McFly. Actually, not knowing anything about Pat Buchanan at the time, I thought Buchanan seemed a little more kind hearted to my confused teenage eyes. Now I guess you could say Novak is an institution of the pundit world, although exactly what kind of institution he is I don't know. Maybe the kind with a few broken windows, and some safety issues on the campus.

Anyway, I don't know if my metaphors are making sense anymore, so I'll just give you the details.

Robert Novak will be at the Glendale Public Library (222 E. Harvard Street) on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. More information on the library's Web site.
