It should not be a surprise that for some people, having a Hispanic last name is only that. No real true connection to another culture, language and knowledge that could make your world twice as exciting.

Are YOU kidding about your title too? Your "15 children in one bedroom house" is extreme closed mindedness, tunnel vision and what continues the misconceptions, prejudiced views and misunderstandings of cultures unlike the one you know.

This article may be much beyond your understanding because you do not understand one of many other cultures surrounding you.

In the Los Angeles 2000 census, 46.53% of the population turned out to be... HISPANIC... a little over 1.7 million people of the 3.6+ million that live in the city boundaries.

FInally, do you think that the L.A. Times would ignore almost half of their potential customers???? It all comes down to $s and ¢s, profits and what might maximize these.

The lesson here (Reaching potential readers 101), Sir Edward, might be that ignoring a large majority of the potential readership tends not to be profitable.
