Headlines that cringe
If it wasn't about a tragic death, today's headline would have brought much mirth in the Trib newsroom.
"Police:Man kills self; before daughter and wife."
Obviously, 'before' should have been 'after' and was accurate in the Whittier Daily News.
We do have a top ten list of hilarious headlines, I'm told. I'm trying to track it down and post it. If you can't laugh at yourself, life isn't as much fun.

Maybe you can add this one to your list:
Accident snarls already jammed freeway
Article Launched: 01/10/2008 09:57:14 AM PST
ARCADIA - A two-vehicle collision snarled traffic on the the Foothill (210) Freeway this morning, backing up the normally free-flowing eastbound lanes for miles.
Aside from the extra "the," what was the condition of the pre-crash freeway? "Already jammed" or "normally free-flowing"?

Your headline today, "Hillary Dies," must have given a momentary jolt to anybody following the primaries and the caucuses. Until they realized you meant Sir Edmund Hillary.

Maybe we should have a weekly contest for the funniest or cringe-inducing headline. Or is that too easy for you all. I want to add that headlines are written and checked by all of us. And sometimes, the headlines are based on information in a story that is unclear.
