Effective July 22, I will be preparing to travel to Guatemala and then return to my native New York. I will stay in journalism as long as I can. Journalism, in some form, will survive, though the next few years will be rough. As for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Frank Girardot will be taking over my duties. All kidding aside, I thank everyone I have worked with and learned from (including – ack – local bloggers). I am a better journalist today because of you. As for this blog, it will most likely end. Because we now have a slew of blogs that have helped our Web site flourish. Once again thanks.

Resources generally prevented us from covering the primaries between Republicans Dreier and Sonny Sardo and Democrats Cynthia Matthews and Warner. (That includes Libertarian candidate Ted Brown who garnered 188 votes.) One of the reasons we covered others was because the primaries would dictate the eventual winners considering how the lines are drawn. With Warner and Dreier now official rivals, we will be covering the race a bit more closely.

[]
“Asked whether the artwork was being seen as dangerous, (Police Commissioner Ray) Kelly said: “Obviously, it sounds totally inappropriate. We need more information as to what the purpose of it was. As I say, apparently he made some statements that he was referring to their reputations … don’t know, we will have to get more information. But he is being questioned now by our detectives and the Secret Service.”

News is just the facts. Columns can be hybrids of news and analysis. Frank Girardot’s column is one example and a new one from reporters Jennifer Mclain and Tania Chatila is another. It’s news with an edge. Now it should be clearly marked and the latter wasn’t this weekend. That’s been fixed on the web at least.
