From San Bernardino County Superintendent of School:

Thirty-four San Bernardino County projects were crowned champions at the 21st annual History Day competition on March 20 at Summit High School.

Among school districts, Upland Unified had the most county group and individual champions with 18, followed by Fontana Unified with 11. Among individual schools, Upland High had the most individual and group champions with 16.

The individual and group champions advance to the California History Day competition in Pasadena from May 6-9.
The county History Day event had as its theme, "Innovation in History: Impact and Change." There were three divisions with both individual and group competitions: Elementary (Grades 4-5), Junior (Grades 6-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12). All totaled, 150 students, representing six school districts and a private school, competed.

History Day gives students a chance to compete in a variety of categories on a historical theme. The Elementary Division only has one category of competition, posters. The Junior and Senior divisions compete in exhibit, documentary, performance, Web site and research paper categories.

The event is sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, California State University San Bernardino and Summit High School in the Fontana Unified School District.
