Upland school marks blueberry bush donation

Students, teachers and faculty at Baldy View Elementary in Upland have celebrated donated blueberry bushes in the school's student garden with a blueberry scavenger hunt, trivia, blueberry treats and "Blueberries for Sal" reading this past week.

The bushes were donated by Dave Brazleton, owner of Fall Creek Nursery in Lowell, Ore., through the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council's program "Ready, Set, Grow!"

A special dedication of the blueberry bushes was made at an assembly last Wednesday.
Ann Sorvetti, the Garden Club teacher, planned the blueberry related activities to coincide with the donated bushes.

It's part of school gardening initiatives designed to teach children about where their food comes from and to encourage healthy food choices.

Thank you for placing a bit about our Baldy View school garden blueberry donation in the Daily Bulletin. We will be holding another event in late April to dedicate our "California Friendly" Garden, which we received through a grant from the Inland Empire Utility Agency , (the IEUA). This is a special grant made available to schools who apply for funding and help to establish a low water usage garden that helps to educate kids about the importance of taking care of our planet. We will be contacting you just before Earth Day about this event also. Again, thanks for the nice article.
