Filing period starts today

The filing period for candidates in the Nov. 2 begins today.

More than 70 Inland Valley seats will be up for grabs in the general election.

The filing period ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 6, but will be extended to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 for any race in which an incumbent fails to file.

"This is going to be a big election," said Kathy Payne, elections analyst with the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.

On top of city, school, water and special districts, there will be state propositions and perhaps in some cases city measures to vote on.

The San Bernardino County runoff election for 2nd District supervisor will also be on the ballot.

"There will also be state constitutional offices, United States Senate, congressional offices and state Senate and Assembly seats that will need to be voted on," Payne said.

Those interested in running for city councils should file papers with the city clerks in their cities.

School and water district candidates should contact San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters' office, 777 E. Rialto Ave., San Bernardino, 800-881-8683 or 909-387-8300; or Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office, 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, 800-815-2666.

Candidates will receive informational handbooks when they pull papers. Seats held by the following officials will be up for election on the November ballot:
