What is wrong with people? We are in economic dire straits and people voted FOR bonds? People, I have no extra money for this - how do you?

Unbelievable that a 16 year old can get an abortion without EVER having to tell there Parents or legal guardian. I guess Parents have NO rights when it comes to there OWN children anymore. Unbelievable!!!

To the parent who believes Prop 4 would rob him or her of their parental rights. How about talking to your kids honestly about sex, responsibility, & birth control? Parents should acknowledge the fact that, though their teenaged children are still dependents, they can make mistakes with adult-level consequences. Once a teenaged girl is pregnant, though, it's her body and her decision as to what she will do. Be responsible parents, yes, well before your teenager ends up pregnant.

Prop 8 may win? Do you really want to live in a state that promotes discrimination? Come on California...We are better than that. Equality is just that: Equality. No one should be stripped of their rights.

Paul, you do not have to live in California. There is not door or gate at the state line holding you in here. When prop 8 passes, there wont be any gay bashing going on. Same sex couples are not going to be sent to the back of the bus as black and other minorities did. Things will go back to being the way they were before the California Courts decided to over-rule the peoples vote and allow marraige of same sex couples earlier this year. Stop watching so much MTV and get back to reality.

Look people what has happened to tradition. where have all your values went. Plain and simple Gay people have no right to get married. I also dont believe they should be able to adopt. If you cant have kids as nature planned it to happen, this should tell you something. I love California for this!!!!

youre seriously ignorant.
alright lets let the orphanage overflow with all those "straight couples" that abandon their kids. why shouldnt Gays have the right to adopt? its not like gay people raise gay children. if you havent noticed most gays come from a "traditional" family. they had both a mother and a father figure. you people say that children cant live without both a father and mother figure? well what about all the single mothers and the single fathers out there?

You yes on prop 8 people are seriously ridiculous.

TEN REASONS WHY GAY MARRIAGE IS WRONG:

1) Being gay is not natural.
--And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts.

2) Gay marriage will make more people gay.
--In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
--People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all
-- thats why women are still property, black people are still slaves, divorce is still illegal, and women can't vote.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriages were allowed
--And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage in vegas be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children.
--So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children
--Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion.
--In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America, right?

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home.
--Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms.
--Just like we haven't adapted to cars, electricity, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

The ability to love and commit to another person is a right all people have. I support same sex marriage becase I believe the right to decide to whom one want to commit themselves to is a personal decision. Religion and preservation of the traditional family are often argued by those who oppose same sex marriage. Another point argued is that history itself has showed marriage as being between a man and woman. That argument may be invalid considering the many progressive changes over the course of history. society is continiously evolving, moving forward toward a future with no room for discrimination.

When civil rights are at stake there is no such thing as deserving them; they are intrinsic to our way of life. Marriage is as basic as freedom of religion or of speech. While religion considers homosexuality an abomination it does not stand alone. Murder is also considered an abomination; an abomination being the worst type of sin. Those who have commited murder are not restricted access to marry. The supreme court has allowed convicted felons to marry. Marriage is a civil act, not a religious one. there is no state that requires a religious ceremony to be married. Judges and civil servants can perform a marriage ceremony in every state, a priest is not required. In Colorado the couple themselves can obtain a marriage license by signing the license and returning it back to the county clerk. The only thing needed is for the couple to say they take each other as spouses.

In 1947, the California supreme court made it possible for inter-racial couples to marry even though an overwhelming 90% voted against it. In 1967 sixteen states had laws making inter-racial marriage between two people a criminal offense. It was viewed unnatural. Within the last century so many imporatant and neccessary changes have been applied through laws that have shaped our current ways of equality. Opposing same sex marriage is unfair by rejecting someone a right other citizens can have based on one characteristic of the many that make up who they are. There was a time within the last century where women had no rights. Their consent was not required for a marriage to be legal. Not too long ago African Americans were required to live as second class citizens and now we have for the first time an African American presidential candidate. Changes in history were made for equailty and a better future. By opposing same sex marriage we are taking a step back toward a progressive future.

The right to love and commit to someone is not something that can be granted and therefore should not be taken away. In a country known for freedom and justice for all it is hard to understand why a matter of equality is not widely accepted. Other countries such as Canada, Germany and Austrailia to name a few allow same sex marriage nation wide. As an innovator the United States should be leading the way. In no way has allowing same sex marriage in those contries negatively impacted others' way of life. Minorities have always been treated unfairly in this country. People should over look their own predjudiceness and stop disallowing the minorities equal rights.10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is "Wrong"
