Voters reject Propositions 1A, 1B
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- California voters have rejected a ballot measure that would have created a state spending cap while prolonging temporary tax increases.
Proposition 1A was the centerpiece of efforts by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and other state leaders to fix California's ongoing fiscal problems. It also would have strengthened the state's rainy day fund.
The measure's defeat means Proposition 1B, which would have restored more than $9 billion to schools, cannot be enacted even if voters approve it. That measure also was trailing in early returns Tuesday.
Proposition 1A generated the most opposition among the six measures on Tuesday's ballot. State employee unions opposed the spending cap, while anti-tax groups criticized the $16 billion in tax increases it would have triggered.
Voters have spoken. A defeat against state legislators, senators, etc to start cutting, cutting, cutting, spending, staff in their offices and all state offices. Stop raising taxes, fees and cut their office expenses. As industry has done...that is private... government has to stop hiring... giving outlandish pensions, health benefits... reduce travel back and forth. Oh, let us not forget to give education their due share of what is left and more. If we cut welfare and reduce aid to illegals, there may be enough money to educate our youth.
The public are not cash cows. Business are not cash cows.
The entrepreneur spirit has to return to America.
Can you believe that voters finally woke up. A hard right to jaws of legislators. Hope it is a knock out punch. They should all be voted out of office. Picking our pockets and emptying our purses. Shame on all of them.
Does anyone have an answer? Need a complete sweep. Term limits haven't helped...all it has created are musical chairs.
Can not believe all the increases in fees, from all sectors...state, county, city and federal. Spending our money like drunken sailors.
It must be a dream. Voters defeated all but one. That one to not give raises to legislators. I hope those elected get the message. Next time they should be voted out...out.
I believe we can't say that the citizens spoke since it was barely a 10% voter turn out. I believe there needs to be a drastic change in the system to make California more efficient.
Lets get all of the "thieves" we call legislators out of office now. I think we should start a recall and vote everyone out of office!
Now to see if the crooks will comply. I doubt it. In a Socialist society there is no such thing as the peasants telling the dictators what to do.
