Love All Around.

The Vegas screening of "Love in the Time of Cholera" was complimented by the presence of the lovely Latin music artist Shakira, who looked extra glamourous in a teal chiffon dress by Zuhair Murad, with her usually wild locks tamed for the intimate-feeling affair.

Shakira performed as part of the evening's benefit event, "An Evening of Love," benefitting The Bare Feet Foundation, including a song from the film on the set list.

Now, that's the smile of someone in love...

The Many Hemlines of Joss Stone

Joss Stone arrived at the "Frosted Pink: Putting Women's Cancer on Ice" awareness event (airing Oct. 14 on ABC) in an appropriately hued satin Dina Bar-El halter.

Love the dress - the background, not so much. "Metal fence and empty lot with truck adorned with Do Not Enter signage" is not my idea of festive.

Thankfully, conditions were much better indoors at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Joss Stone hit the stage in a less-colorful mini dress complimented by....an equally mini'd Natalie Cole.

Two for two!

Much like her solo musical endeavors, the third time was a charm for this (back to) colorful fit for her choir-backed performance.

Other Pink-thinking do-gooders included actress Eva La Rue, in a David Meister black and white satin dress, and singer Babyface, who also performed at the event.

William Baldwin expressed his shared interest in finding a cure for breast cancer (his mother is said to be a passionate advocate) with his presence, as well as with an 18K white gold pin designed by Mikimoto (from a special collection to benefit breast cancer awareness).

Speaking of statement-making accessories (and the men who wear them), do you think singer Ne-Yo (above) will voluntarily end his reign as R&Bs most soulful mad hatter, right now?

(It's totally OK if he doesn't, but...I was just wondering.)

77Oh7

While couples around the world were tying the knot in hopes of having a marraige just a tad luckier than the rest of us, a lucky many were enjoying one of the Live Earth concerts that were happening in seven locations worldwide Saturday, including a few sexy (and conscious) stars who came out to support the push for increased awareness of the climate crisis.

Model Petra Nemcova made an appearance at the New York show wearing a Catherine Malandrino silk cotton button front bubble dress...

"Is it me or is it hot out here?

petra2_liveearth.jpg
"Call me if you wanna talk environment. Nemcova, out!"

Meanwhile, on another side of the globe, singer Rihanna selected a different piece from the same Malandrino Spring/Summer 2007 line to jazz up her Tokyo show appearance: a studded satin cropped jacket that popped more than her hit single, "Umbrella."

It seems that it was just too hot to actually sing so Rihanna enlisted the help of her audience (who were too mesmerized by the glare of the aformentioned jacket to notice anyway).

Talk about making a statement. Hot!

Fancy Pants...er, Dresses

Last night in New York, entertainers, socialites and members of the Beautiful People's Club of America attended the MET Costume Institute Benefit Gala, "Poiret: King Of Fashion." Many got dressed up - even more got sprayed down - with styles ranging from the "heading to my senior prom" (Rosario Dawson) to the "just flew in from the 1920s" (Kirsten Dunst).

Glowing on their own were model Selita Ebanks and R&B singer Rihanna.

Newest Victoria's Secret beauty chose a silver beaded scoop neck gown by Zuhair Murad to shine in as she sashayed through paparazzi lights with fiancee Nick Cannon supporting her (literally).

The Barbados-born Rihanna held her own (or should I say, the dress held her) in a white Georges Chakra chiffon empire gown accented by a clear crystal neckline.

At 19, I'm sure she'll have plenty of time to make a fashion flop, but for now, no "SOS" needed.

....Tie Optional

Cummerbunds never looked so appealing. And women all over the world will be tearing up their boyfriends's tuxedos just to imitate this female-take on men's formal wear as exhibited by Hollywood's own Amanda Bynes and Vanessa Minnillo this past week. But before you whip out the scissors ladies, first make sure you ask, "Who was she wearing?" (then find a knockoff of the same dress...hey, I'm just sayin).

On the east coast, Vanessa Minnillo got all gussied up in a Chantilly lace tuxedo front gown by Monique Lhuillier for the "Hot Pink Party" in New York Tuesday, hosted by the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

On the west, Amanda Bynes took a "short cut" with a black satin backless (use your imagination) tuxedo minidress by Donna Baxter for Elsie Katz Couture, complete with a satin face organza bib, cummerbund and pearl buttons.

(Is that a tie? Extra points.) It was just enough formal for a Los Angeles evening out as she attended Movieline Hollywood Life's Young Hollywood Awards.

Well, You know what they say: You can take the man out the tux, but you can't take the tux away from the woman who probably bought it for the man anyway....

Or something.

"Mom Jeans" Not Allowed

"Dancing with the Stars" host Samantha Harris played guest at The Step-Up Women’s Network event held last night in Beverly Hills. The mom-to-be (expecting her first child in the Fall) selected a green and white floral mesh top and designer jeans from A Pea in the Pod, the maternity brand that outfits the style-conscious during a time when it's most difficult for a woman to be stylish (or conscious, really).

Good Girls Wearing Good Things

Sara Ramirez, always the scene stealer in ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," was the star of the red carpet at Saturday's GLAAD Media Awards at LA's Kodak Theatre wearing a David Meister satin slip dress with ruched bodice that hugged (and loved) the curvy actress.

Out supporting her show, which was nominated for Outstanding Individual Episode, this do-good girl (in association with Dove) is also a part of the "Campaign for Real Beauty" encouraging women of all ages to embrace and love their bodies...now that's a platform I can stand by.

Meister was also the choice for known actress and, in recent years, better-known activist Holly Robinson Peete (featured on the cover of this month's Essence magazine), as she hit the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel dance floor in a red silk dress at last Friday's 14th Annual Race To Erase MS "Dance to Erase MS"-themed gala.

Other supporters of the event included a new and improved Tara Reid (2007 has certainly been good to Ms. Reid), in a turquoise gown with black lace trim by Dina Bar-El, and TV Personality Stacy Keibler in a light pink silk and chiffon babydoll dress by the same designer (accented by a silver clutch and crystal earrings by Daniel Swarovski Paris).

Picture Perfect Penelope

"Volver" star Penelope Cruz gave the camera a winning smile that sparkled almost as much as the 19.48-ct chandelier white diamond Chopard earrings she wore Wednesday night at the Hollywood kick off for Cruz's (in partnership with Dolce & Gabbana) Charity Auction to Benefit The Art of Elysium. With a line of stars coming out to the Chateau Marmont in support, the Spanish beauty had plenty of reasons to smile that night - and even more the next morning with the announcement of her Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a motion picture drama.
