Goodbye We's in California

One of the best Van Nuys blogs was by Gareth, who moved to Van Nuys with Dayna in late 2005. They came from Canada, and I loved their outsider take on Van Nuys, in all its filth and fury, and on Southern California as well.

Now I read that Gareth and Dayna (I don't really know them, except through their blog ..) are heading back to Canada:

Gareth recently took up the violin, and he went out, as it were, with an appearance on Leno's "Jaywalking" skit. Gareth comes in at 2:27 on the YouTube video.

His goodbye California post is short:

We came, we saw, I lost my keys a few times. LA was a great experience but there aren't many reasons we can think of to stay here. As negative as I've generally been about the city, we really have met some great people here and are sorry to leave for that reason. We are driving back to Winnipeg and will hopefully arrive by Christmas Eve. Instead of going through the Rockies, we'll drive to Texas then hang a left. I'm not sure if I'll be continuing to write the weblog when we're in Winnipeg.

I especially enjoyed Gareth's post on learning at an "advanced" age, which for him is 25, and to me is very, very young. He talks about the violin (which you can hear him play in the video above) and about how Dayna is a nurse and he is a computer programmer

It looks like the blog is continuing, and I hope Gareth and Dayna find happiness in Winnipeg. He didn't really get into the particulars of why they decided to move back to Canada, and I'm pretty sure it's none of my business, but I'm still wondering while wishing them the best.
