California among largest states affected by Starbucks closures

California will not escape when it comes to Starbucks closures, according to this missive from Convenience Store News (that's a publication — can you believe it?):

Starbucks officials said the closures are happening in "all major U.S. markets" between late July and March. Florida and California are among the largest states affected, spokeswoman Valerie O'Neil told Bloomberg News.

There were 2,496 stores in California and 625 in Florida in March. Those two states have been especially hard hit by the real-estate downturn and credit crisis.

I am sick it is about time for the State Government to aid Starbucks.

What's interesting is that SBUX absolutely, seriously does NOT realize that the major reason why people are staying away from SBUX is that they simply cannot afford to spend $5 on a cup of coffee right now. So unless they slash prices (HA!) or offer deals/specials, etc, they just aren't going to get people back in for awhile.

But get this. Do you know what SBUX partly blames lack of business on? I'm serious here. DRESS CODE!!! Apparently, some naughty employees dare not tuck their shirts in, or wear colors other than black, white, or khaki. This, according to SBUX officials, is sending customers running out of SBUX screaming in terror.

BARF!!!!
