In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 took off from Montevideo, Uruguay, bound for Chile. The chartered plane was carrying the Uruguayan rugby team, along with their friends and family members, 45 people in total. Cloudy weather and navigation errors led to the plane crashing in the Andes Mountains and stranding the survivors with little food, no heat, and little hope of rescue.
Everyone knows this story (even though I always heard it was a soccer team); everyone has thought about what they would do if forced into that situation. It's a nightmare scenario that happened to people in real life.
Commander Fisk, leader of the de-Cained Pegasus, is murdered aboard his ship, and Lee Adama is called in to investigate. Lee's discovery of a thriving black market leads to some shocking developments and a personal low for our golden boy.

Biopics can be a tricky thing to pull off; too many times, the film can feel like it's just telling you the highlights of a person's life without actually giving you a real idea of who that person is (case in point: "Walk the Line"). That doesn't mean films like that are irredeemably awful (again, "Walk the Line"), but it does mean they lack the spark that makes them great.
Well, along comes Jane Campion's "Bright Star," a pseudo-biopic of John Keats (Ben Whishaw); I say pseudo because while it does feature Keats as the male lead, it's really the story of his lady love, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish).
As her cancer reaches a critical level, Roslin has a series of flashbacks of her last day on Caprica, including one stunning and unexpected memory. In the B plot, Galactica crew has some run-ins with a terrorist group of Cylon sympathizers, led by an old friend.

OK, so not too bad in my picks this year. Of the eight awards I made bold (and sometimes) foolish predictions for, I got five right.
Whoo-hoo.
Yeah, I should have known that Jeff Bridges was a lock, but I wasn't the only one to be thrown off by the screenplay wins.
But forget all that; twelve years after the "Titanic" debacle swept the Oscars, I have my ("L.A. Confidential"-inspired) revenge. Yes, it's petty and time to move on, but I can't help it; I was happy to see "Avatar" (and James Cameron) fail.
I have no idea how good "The Hurt Locker" is, just as I have no idea what I'm going to think when I finally do see "Avatar." It will be a while before I can really weigh in on that debate, but right now, I'm going to take some pride in the Academy for honoring a small picture over another blockbuster (and for finally giving a female director an Oscar: Go Bigelow!).
How can this feeling of smug superiority be wrong?
The Colonials attack the Cylon fleet, with some surprising results. Gaius lets his villainy run wild by helping Gina, and both Adama and Cain display some humanity toward each other.

"Terminator Salvation" was not half bad.
I mean that literally; it's not a great movie, but I really enjoyed about half of it, which is more than I can say for "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines."
