The Mary Vagle Museum and Nature Center is inviting the public to free, family-friendly hikes into Jurupa Hills.

Offered on the first Saturday of the month, the "Discovery Hikes" series is a tour through local surroundings led by one of the center's naturalists.

Hikers will get a chance to see hawks, rabbits, quail and one of the areas oldest lemonade berry trees, said Johnny Gomez, a naturalist with the center.

Gomez recommends hikers bring plenty of sun screen and water.

The hikes are not set to a specific distance.

"We kind of go at everyone's pace," Gomez said.

The hikes start at 9:30 a.m.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The center is located at 11501 Cypress Ave. For more information, please call the center at (909) 428-8386 or visit online at www.fontanarecreation.org.
The center is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
